VLM Airlines has published a factsheet to dispel the myth that flying within the UK and on short-haul services to Europe is more damaging to the environment than rail.


VLM Airlines’ success as a leading business airline was once again demonstrated recently when it was named ‘Best Business Airline- Western Europe’ by Business Destinations Magazine in their first Annual Travel Awards.


Long check-in queues become a thing of the past; VLM Airlines has added yet another convenient way of checking in at London City airport. Customers now need to check-in at one of the 12 new CUSS (Common Use Self Service) machines. This service allows you to check-in faster and to pass easier through the airport. The kiosks are permanently hosted, so assistance is available when needed. The self-service check-in machines are located in the centre of the terminal concourse. CUSS is also available in Amsterdam and Manchester.


To celebrate the impressive levels of passenger traffic on its routes between London City Airport and the Netherlands, VLM Airlines has repainted one of its aircraft orange, the colour of the Netherlands. The Fokker 50, which was unveiled at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, will operate mainly on the London City-Amsterdam route.


On Friday 23rd May, VLM Airlines carried 1250 passengers on the Amsterdam – London City route. The reason for this record number is the large-scale maintenance works to the runway at Rotterdam Airport. These works finished on Monday morning, 26th May.


VLM Airlines has beat off a host of leading carriers to be named the most punctual airline on the popular Amsterdam to London City Airport route for 2007.


VLM Airlines has won the prestigious ‘Passenger Airline Award 2007’ from Amsterdam Airport Schipol in recognition of the developments and initiatives it has taken with its Amsterdam – London City service.


VLM Airlines carried a total of 745,781 passengers in 2007 – a 9 per cent increase over 2006. The total number of scheduled passengers increased by 6 per cent to 697,781, whilst the number of passengers using the airline’s charter and wet lease flights increased sharply by 62 per cent to 48,000.


VLM Airlines has been awarded with the ‘Anglo-Dutch Award for Enterprise 2007’ at the Clothworkers’ Hall in London.


VLM claims there is no faster way of getting to London than with their airline. Over the past few days, various media have done the time test, and all have come up with the same results: VLM Airlines is the fastest way of getting to London, whether you depart from Antwerp or from Brussels.


The route Antwerp – Manchester of VLM Airlines has achieved excellent results after one year of operations, resulting into 16% more passengers than initially budgeted for. To mark the first anniversary of the route Antwerp – Manchester, Flemish Minister President, Kris Peeters attended the ceremonies together with Jaap Rosen Jacobson, chairman of VLM Airlines.


One year after the launch of VLM Airlines’ Frequent Flyer Programme ‘VLM Encore’, over 35.000 members have subscribed to the programme. To mark its first anniversary, a new higher tier is being introduced for the most frequent members of the programme.


Brussels Airport has now launched its ‘Fast Lane’ for business travellers. VLM Airlines welcomes this initiative as it further strengthens its position as fastest mode of transport from Brussels to the centre of London.


VLM Airlines introduces new schedule for the Luxembourg – London City route and further strengthens its Luxembourg – Manchester connection. VLM Airlines has been operating the route Luxembourg – London City since 1998, and offers more flights at London City airport than any other airline.


VLM Airlines will fly the Belgian men’s hockey team, with their new coach Adam Commens, to the 2007 EuroHockey Nations Championships in Manchester, with the intension of qualifying for the Olympic Games in Beijing.


VLM VLM Airlines, the carrier which offers the largest number of flights from London City Airport, will introduce an additional return service to Manchester from 1st March, 2007, bringing the total of return flights to nine each weekday.


VLM Airlines has announced the launch of a new route between Rotterdam and Manchester, directly linking two major regional cities in the Netherlands and the UK.


Mr Marc Boelens, VLM Airline VLM Airlines celebrated a significant milestone by carrying its four millionth passenger through its main hub at London City Airport. The carrier is the first airline at London City to pass the four-million mark - underlining its leading position at the airport in London Docklands and the growing popularity of the facility for short-haul business travellers.
