Formula Yacht Spars, the UK’s leading manufacturer of performance carbon and aluminium yacht spars will announce the launch of ‘Oceanfurl’ at this year’s METS Trade Show. ‘Oceanfurl’ is a roller-based in boom furling system that has been created in association with Matrix Masts in New Zealand. Following five years in development the system is set to take the market by storm.

The Chris Mitchell designed ‘Oceanfurl’ is a premium quality carbon system that has been developed and refined from an aesthetic and even more importantly a functional point of view, to make a system that is quite simply, easy to use. The new development ensures that hoisting and reefing the main is effortless, and that the system performs well in all conditions, giving the ability to reef upwind or downwind, due to a unique design feature.

Custom designed to suit individual boat requirements, the boom is made entirely of strong, lightweight oven cured carbon. The high stress components, including the vang and gooseneck are not simply alloy attachments bolted on after the curing process is complete, they are all an integral part of the carbon lay up of the boom. The rollers, which are also integral to the boom, have been faired to reduce chafe and allow easy access to the roller pin for servicing.

“The ‘Oceanfurl’ really is a class-leading performer”, says Mark Merritt, MD of Formula Yacht Spars. “We are delighted with the result, and are pleased that we are able to offer our customers a simple, yet efficient product that gives optimum sailing performance. We are very excited about launching the new system at the forthcoming METS Trade Show and welcome anyone who would like further information to come along and meet the Formula team at either of our stands.”

The ‘Oceanfurl’ Furling Boom, designed by Matrix Masts will be available from both Formula Spars and Matrix Masts, and will be branded accordingly.

Formula, a major player in the global market for both superyacht and racing yachts, acquired Hood Yacht Spars in 2004 and since the take-over has seen the business develop rapidly. Formula provides a vast range of services including design, project management, rigging, repairs and servicing, as well as a market leading selection of spars, spinnaker poles, masts and booms.

Formula Yacht Spars works with many leading industry names and has been involved in a number of high profile projects, including providing the race rig for the Ericsson Volvo 70 racing boat. The company is also a preferred supplier for the Oyster range of boats.

The METS Trade Show, which takes place between the 15th-17th November at the RAI in Amsterdam, will give Formula the platform to showcase its range of products and services, as well as announce some of the exciting projects the company will be involved in over the forthcoming year.
